Little Actors Walk the Plank
Little Actors Theatre sets sail with a pirate comedy this weekend.
The children’s theatre organization stages playwright Pat Lyderson’s “The Fearsome Pirate Frank.”
“The pirate craze isn’t just a modern phenomenon, it dates back to Shakespearean times, according to two witty narrators in this snappy comedy,” according to the show’s notes.
The play is a show within a show involving the Elizabethan heartthrob playing the Fearsome Pirate Frank, a young actor unable to remember his lines.
Things go topsy-turvy when the pirate actors are kidnapped by real pirates, and the teen-idol Frank meets the real Pirate Frank, who is a woman.
“In a chilling flashback sequence, the tale of how Captain Frank received the ‘Blackmark’ comes alive as we see her send her crooked captain to walk the plank,” according to a show synopsis. “Nightmare sailors, zombie pirates and hypnotizing mermaids fill this zany spoof with pop culture, even Spiderman makes the scene.”
Diane Tovar, LAT director, said the show has plenty of comedy and adventure for audiences of all ages. The cast features several regular LAT performers and newcomers.
